The next General Meeting of the Fairford and District u3a will take place at 2.30 pm on Tuesday 7 June 2022 in the Palmer Hall.

There will be a talk by Richard Martin from Cotswold Woollen Weavers in Filkins.

Richard read chemical engineering then medieval and modern history at UCL and has been weaving woollen cloth since 1976, first in West Wales, then in the Cotswolds and West Yorkshire. Currently he and his partner, Trish Poole, operate Cotswold Woollen Weavers in Filkins and the Blanket Hall in Witney.

Richard will talk about the “wool churches”, how and why the wealth to build them arose and what happened to it. These are small questions with big and very interesting answers which Richard will attempt to supply.

PLEASE NOTE: Richard’s talk will not be transmitted by Zoom so come to the Palmer Hall to hear his talk. Seating will be socially distanced. To protect yourself and others you should only attend if you have been fully vaccinated and have no current Covid symptoms.
