The group started in December 2015 in response to the re-issue of Richard Hamer’s book A Choice of Anglo-Saxon Verse published by Faber. The Anglo-Saxon (or Old English) text is printed opposite the translation. We usually read the translation, with light-hearted glances at the original language, and we also make occasional visits to places of interest.
In 2020 we shall be concentrating on Seamus Heaney’s translation of Beowulf.
