We hold a planning meeting in December to decide on the reading list for the following year. Each member comes with their suggestions (often with copies of the books suggested) which we discuss with a view to getting a broad spread of genres over the course of the year.

The meetings are at 2.30pm on the 2nd Tuesday in each month, rotating around each of our homes. The host provides tea/coffee plus some interesting biscuits, without charge. The presenter of the book gives an introduction generally highlighting the life and career of the author, and then each of us takes it in turn to give a roughly 1 minute summary of how/why we did/not enjoy the book! This way everyone gets a chance to say at least something before it has been said by someone else! Facilitated by the presenter, we then have an open discussion expanding on the thumbnail views already expressed.

It is not at all surprising to find quite a wide variety of views, which makes for a very stimulating afternoon!
